Three simple baby food recipes to delight even the pickiest eater.

Hi, I'm Lindsay Weiss from the our site Blog. I've got a little guy that's 9 months old and eats a lot of baby food. I won't lie and pretend that I make all my own baby food, but I do make it sometimes. And when I do, I've discovered there's two techniques.

The first is roasting the vegetables and fruits first just for a few minutes to really bring out their flavor. And the second is adding just a little bit of spice to make it taste interesting. I'm going to show you three recipes that use those techniques today. Let's get started.

So the ingredients we're going to use today are very easy and simple. We've got some fresh sweet potato. We've got some quinoa, some olive oil. Over here we have some apples and some fresh cinnamon. We also have some bananas, some pears, and some fresh ginger.

Now all three baby food recipes are made in much the same way. I'm going to just make one of them for you today. I'm going to demonstrate the sweet potatoes, but again they all use the same method. You roast the vegetables or fruits first and add a little something extra.

Today we'll add some quinoa. If you wanted to use the apple combination, you add some cinnamon. And the banana pears, you could add some fresh ginger.

So to make our roasted sweet potato and quinoa puree, the first thing you'll do is preheat the oven to 350. You're going to toss your sweet potatoes with a bit of olive oil. This will just help them brown up and really bring out the sweetness and flavor. So toss them until they're evenly coated. And then just place them on a foil-lined baking sheet. And the foil just helps them from sticking and getting juices all over your pan.

Go ahead and spread those out so they all have a nice bit of space between them, the air can get all around them. And then take it to your 350 degree oven to roast.

So once your sweet potatoes are roasted and nice and tender, you'll be able to tell by – you can use a spoon and just kind of give it a nice push. They'll almost mash for you, that's the perfect consistency. So take your roasted sweet potatoes. I'm just going to pick it up by the foil handles here and put them right into your food processor. A little shake.

Then you're going to add the prepared quinoa. Now this quinoa has just been boiled according to the package directions and cooled just slightly and ready to go. So we'll add that to the food processor.

And then I'm going to add just a little bit of water. This is maybe a tablespoon or two to start with and we'll start with that. Now I have a 9-month-old baby, so he likes his food pretty thick. You'll gauge based on what stage your baby is in. But I'll start with about two tablespoons and we'll process it and see where we are. We may add a little more liquid. You could also add formula or breast milk – either is perfect. Let's give it a whirl.

And then I like to check about halfway through and just test the consistency. So I've got about a 9-month-old baby who likes it thick but probably not quite this thick. So I'm going to add just a little water, probably about two tablespoons in there. Put that back in and we'll give it one more whirl. Should be perfect. Again, you're gauging based on your baby's taste. There we go.

And there we go. We have a homemade sweet potato and quinoa puree, perfect for feeding your baby. You could actually go straight from the food processor right to the table, but I always take just a little dip out, check the consistency for my baby. Might even take a little taste. The sweetness of the sweet potatoes is perfect for my little guy.
