7 tips to care for your baby’s skin
#1: Bathe your baby three times a week. Bathing more frequently may dry out your little one's skin.
#2: Use gentle products without dyes, fragrances, and parabens. This goes for everything that touches your baby's skin:
- laundry detergent
#3: Wash new baby clothes to remove substances that might irritate your baby's skin. Also remove any tags that might scratch newborn skin.
#4: Keep nails short. Babies don't have much control of their limbs, so they can easily scratch themselves with their sharp little nails.
#5: Wipe away drool. The constant presence of saliva on your baby's chin and neck can cause irritation. Gently dab it away with a soft cloth. Try using a bib that you can change out when wet.
#6: When in the sun, wear protective clothing and sunscreen. Bring a hat for your baby, choose shade over direct sunlight, and use a mineral-based sunscreen on exposed skin.
#7: Avoid picking at your baby's skin. Picking at bumps or flakes can cause infections or scarring. These things will go away on their own.
